May 5th, 2018 MLB Betting Tips

A 1-2 record last night.

The runlines have been killing me lately and it’s time to take a break. We picked the Yankees -1.5 and they won by one. This has happened more times than I’d have liked it to as of late. That Yankees bullpen absolutely crushed us yesterday as they had a 5-0 lead heading into the 8th. Tough break, but I think bullpens are becoming less reliable of late. At least in the games I play.

The Brewers offense did exactly what I thought it would as they tagged Nick Kingham for four runs in this one. Unfortunately, Junior Guerra threw his worst start of the year and the Brewers weren’t able to come back. They certainly had chances late in the game, but it was not meant to be.

Cincinnati turned out to be our big winner yesterday as they beat the Reds 4-1 behind Eugenio Suarez and Adam Duvall homeruns. Maybe I should bet the worst teams in baseball more often.

For those interested, I wrote up some Kentucky Derby tips. I’m not the biggest horse racing guy, but I’m feeling pretty confident about this one. Mendelssohn is a beast.

Cleveland Indians vs. New York Yankees Betting Tips:

Yankees fans absolutely do not trust Sonny Gray and neither do I. He has a 6.67 ERA/4.65 FIP on the year and is allowing a ton of hard contact. With the short fences in New York, I really like the Indians offense in this one.

The Indians will put Trevor Bauer on the mound for this one and he’s had some good results thus far this season. A 2.45 ERA/3.34 FIP with 10.3 K/9. He can get his pitch count a bit high in games and sometimes gets way too far in his own head, but I like him here. Or I like him enough. Especially if he uses some sticky substances.

I think the Indians get it done here as I like them to hit Gray and no longer trust that bullpen.

Detroit Tigers vs. Kansas City Royals Betting Tips:

One of my favorite targets is on the mound today in Jordan Zimmermann. He’s really upped his strikeouts this year, but I am not sure that is something I fully believe in. He has a 5.81 ERA/4.27 FIP and maybe he shouldn’t be targeted any longer. Right? No, I don’t see him posting his highest strikeout rate since 2009 continuing and fully expect him to continue being a batting practice pitcher.

He goes against Jason Hammel who got absolutely pounded in his last start out against the Red Sox, allowing eight runs in 4.2 innings. This is his third time facing the Tigers this season so they should know what they are getting into. They tagged him for five innings the first time, but he pitched a complete game with two earned runs the second. I’m looking for more of the latter in this one as it should be warm and good hitting weather in Kansas City for this one.

I think you can see where I’m going with this one. I like both of these teams to put some runs on the board with these very hittable pitchers and warm weather. The over seems very reachable here.
